Estoy muy orgulloso de presentar la entrevista que me concedió,que fue realizada el 17/04/2012.

What is the origin of your affix?  Sondaisa is Japanese for “an air of importance”.  It was many years ago before the internet.  I spent a whole day in the library searching for a Japanese word that had the kind of meaning that inspired me.  I only wish that it wasn’t so many letters.

How and when did you become involved with akitas? Were akitas your first breed?  Yes, akitas were and are my first and only breed.  I feel if you want to be really good at something you must be dedicated, focused, hard working, attentive and willing to always learn something new.  There should be nothing left of you to be as good with another breed, unless of course you cloned yourself.

I became involved in the breed 25 years ago , simply as someone who was in awe of the Akita.  I purchased a companion, but also attended some shows.  I decided I wanted the best and that is how my passion for breeding and showing the Akita began.

How and why did you choose your first akitas? Are you still keeping this lines on your pedigrees?  My very first show quality Akita got me started and gave me the confidence to show my dogs myself rather then higher a professional handler.  I bred her a couple of times but she nor her offspring were exactly the picture I had in my mind of the perfect Akita.   I spent a lot of time looking at Akita World magazines, both old and new.  I eventually acquired 2 dogs, Champion Big-O’s Magnum Mac,                                                                  
 who went back to mainly Goshen lines and Champion Skylake’s Tokyo Rose, an OBJ Striped Kareem of Skylake daughter, Kareem, was a Widowmaker, son.  Yes, I do my very best to keep these 2 dogs in my pedigrees.  Tokyo Rose was an incredible bitch.  I wish I had many of her in my kennel even today.

What lines did you bring to your program after and why?  I bred to Champion Touchstone’s The Hustler, “Kash”, about 11 years ago,

 and that breeding gave me Champion Sondaisas Cuervo Gold.  He currently is the most winning Akita I have ever bred.  I really liked what Touchstone was producing and I felt that “Kash” was a great choice for my bitch phenotype wise.  Cuervo, was almost exactly what I had hoped for out of that breeding.  I have also brought in Regalia lines and I am more then thrilled with what I have been producing.  Especially with Sauza, Champion Sondaisas Shiver Shot Stardust CD.  Her mother is a double Tokyo Rose Granddaughter and her sire is Cuervo.

How do you select a stud dog?  I have to like his look…the whole picture!...standing still, moving, in the show ring, out of the show ring.  Of course, he would have to be right for the particular bitch I want to breed.  I then look at the pedigree and all of the dogs within that pedigree if possible.  If I can I get my hands on the dog.  If not, I ask a lot of questions of the owner and the Breeder.  Of course the minimum health tests must be completed and passed.

What do you think about inbreeding, line breeding and outcross?  I have done all 3 and I believe all 3 are very important!  I believe inbreeding establishes your look and line.  I also believe it emphasizes the good and the bad.  You have to be responsible for both!  You must outcross from time to time or you will back yourself into a corner in your breeding program with no where to go.  When you outcross it can bring in some wonderfully new improvements to your breeding program, but it can also bring surprises that are not so good, and it is very difficult to pin point where they came so that you can eliminate them.  It may just be that combination of dogs.

Who or what influenced your breeding the most?  I believe that some of the photos/ads I viewed in Akita World initially influenced me.  They helped me form in my mind the picture of that perfect Akita.  Did you have a mentor?  In the early days, I spoke daily to Dick and Helen Washburn of Big-O Akitas.  I also spent hours and hours on the phone with my friend, Jodi Lundin, of Timbersky Akitas.  A lot of weekends were spent at my friend, Kerry Much’s home.  She owned Ch. Crown Royal Count Basie.  He was the sire of Ch. Crown Royals Get Off of My Cloud “Jagger”.   Always listening and always learning.

What is your all times favourite akita and why?What about your own dogs,what is your favourite?  I do not think I have one all time favorite, but several…Ben, Jagger, Wynter, Brew, and Raja, just to name a few. 

I think having a favorite in your own home or kennel can have a lot more to do with your bond with them then their actual quality.  Bonds grow with time and I have some young up and coming dogs that I have gotten pretty attached to.   With that said, I will try to name off dogs that were both extremely close to my heart and had the qualities I look for in the breed, show ring, and whelping box.  Ch. Sondaisa Fyre When Ready “Holster”.   He belongs to our family and we would be lost without him.

¿Cuál es el origen de tu afijo? Sondaisa en japonés significa "un aire de importancia". Fue hace muchos años antes de  Internet.Pasé un día entero en la biblioteca en busca de una palabra japonesa que tenía el tipo de significado que me inspiró. Sólo queria que no tuviera tantas letras.
¿Cómo y cuándo te involucraste con akitas? Fueron losakitas tu primera raza? Sí, los akitas fueron y son mi primera y única raza.Creo que si quieres ser realmente bueno en algo que debe ser dedicado, centrado, trabajador, atento y dispuesto a aprender siempre algo nuevo. No puedes ser tan bueno con otra raza, a menos que, por supuesto, te clones.
Me involucré en la raza hace 25 años, simplemente como alguien que estaba interesado en el Akita. Compré una mascota,y también asistí a algunos shows. Decidí que quería lo mejor y así es como mi pasión por la cría y exposición del Akita comenzó.

¿Cómo y por qué eligiste tus primeros akitas? ¿Sigues manteniendo estas líneas en tus genealogías? Mi primer Akita de calidad show me inició y me dio la confianza necesaria para presentar a mis perros yo misma en lugar de un handler  profesional. la crie un par de veces, pero ella ni sus hijos eran exactamente la imagen que yo tenía en mi mente del Akita perfecto. Me pasé un montón de tiempo buscando en la revista Akita World, tanto números antiguos como nuevos. Finalmente adquirí 2 perros, Ch Big O Magnum Mac, que iba aprincipalmente a las líneas de Goshen y ch Skylakes Tokyo Rose, hija de OBJ Kareem Streeped of Skylake,Kareem que era un hijo de Widowmaker . Hago mi máximo esfuerzo para mantener a estos 2 perros en mis genealogías. Tokio Rose era una perra increíble. Me gustaría tener muchos descendientes  de ella en mi criadero, incluso hoy en día.

¿Qué líneas introdujiste más tarde en tu programa de cría y por qué?Utilicé a ch Touchstone´s The Hustler hace 11 año y ese cruce me dio a Ch.Sondaisas CuervoGold.  El Akita más ganador que he criado. Me gustó mucho lo que estaba produciendo Touchstone y presentí que"Kash" era una gran elección para el fenotipo de mi perra. Cuervo,fue casi exactamente lo que yo esperaba que saliese de esa cría.También he añadido las líneas de Regalia y estoy más que encantada con lo que he estado produciendo. Especialmente con Sauza, ch Shiver Sondaisas Shot Stardust CD. Su madre es una doble nieta de Tokio Rose  y su padre es Cuervo.
¿Cómo seleccionas un semental? Me tiene que gustar su aspecto ...todo el panorama! ... Parado, en movimiento, en el ring, fuera del ring de exposición. Por supuesto, tendría que ser el adecuado para la perra particular con la que  quiero criar. Luego miro el pedigre y todos los perros dentro de ese pedigrí, si es posible.Si yo puedo, toco el perro con mis manos. Si no, le hago montón de preguntas al propietario y al criador. Por supuesto, las pruebas sanitarias mínimas debe ser completadas y pasadas.

¿Qué piensas  acerca del inbreeding, linebreeding y outcross?
 He hecho los tres y creo que todos los tres son muy importantes! Creo que el inbreeding fija tu tipo y tu línea. También creo que hace hincapié en lo bueno y lo malo.Tienes que ser responsable de las dos cosas!Debes hacer outcross de vez en cuando o llegarás a un lugar en tu programa de cría sin metas donde ir. Cuando haces outcross  puedes aportar algunas mejoras nuevas maravillosas a tu programa de mejoramiento genético, pero también puede traer sorpresas que no son tan buenas, y es muy difícil fijar el punto de donde vinieron para que pueda eliminarlos. Puede que sólo sea esa combinación de los perros.
¿Quien o qué influyó más tu programa de cría y por qué?Creo que algunas de las fotos o anuncios que veía en el Akita World al principio me han influido.Ellos me ayudaron a formarme en mi mente la imagen de lo que pienso que debe ser e akita perfecto. ¿Tuviste un mentor? En los primeros días, hablaba todos los días con Dick y Helen Washburn de Big-O Akitas. También me pasaba horas y horas en el teléfono con mi amiga, Jodi Lundin, deTimbersky Akitas.Pasé una gran cantidad de fines de semana en la casa de mi amigo Kerry Much . Era el dueño de Ch. Crown Royal  Count Basie.Basie fue el padre de Crown Royals Get Off My Cloud(Jagger).Siempre escuchando y aprendiendo

¿Cuál es tu akita favorito de todos los tiempos  y por qué? ¿Qué hay de tus propios perros, ¿cuál es tu favorito? No creo que tenga un favorito de todos los tiempo, pero varios ... Ben, Jagger,Wynter, Brew, y Raja, sólo por nombrar unos pocos.

Creo que tener tus favoritos en tu propia casa o en el kennel puede tener  mucho mas que ver con su vínculo con ellos, que con su calidad real. El vínculo crece según el tiempo que pasas con ellos,y tengo algunos jóvenes a los que estoy muy apegada. Dicho esto, voy a tratar de nombrar algunos de los perros que están a la vez muy cerca de mi corazón y tenían las cualidades que busco en la raza, el ring, y la paridera. Cap.Sondaisas Roping the Wind, "Gonta", Cap. Sondaisa Straight Shot "Rifle", Cap. Sondaisa SnapshotCD "Fashion", Cap. Sondaisa Cuervo Gold "Cuervo", y cap.Shiver Sondaisa Shot Stardust "Sauza". Hoy he descubierto que nunca he estado más cerca de un perro, entonces estoy a Ch.Sondaisa Fyre then Ready "Holster". Pertenece a nuestra familia y estaríamos perdidos sin él.

Do you show your own dogs,or do you prefere an handler?

Until I started having serios heart trouble I’ve always shown my own dogs.I prefer that.

What do you think about politics(judges ,handlers…) on the breed?What would you change?

In the US politics is awful.Horrble dogs win with pro hasndlers.Shame on the judges.

Would you rather show under an all breed judge or a breeder judge?Why?

I’d rather show to an all breed judge because unless your dogs look like the breeder judges you won’t win.

Have you ever been  interested on becoming a judge?

Yes I’ve seriously considered it and have already done most of the required things to get my license.

How did your train your dogs,an ad what age did you begin?

I start puppies out right from 6 or 8 weeks teaching them to stack and walk on the leash with the heads up.I love self stacking dogs so an outgoing attitude is needed.

Have you ever sold or trained dogs for obedience work?

Yes I have several who do obedience and Rally and one does search and rescue.

Could you give any advice to owners who would like to handle their own dog?

Go to a training class and work your dog.Be consistent in the training and never cruel.Make it fun for the puppies.

At what age do you evaluate your puppies for pet/show,and what are you looking for?

I watch them right from birth but do not make my final choice til 8 weeks.I look for the puppy who carries itself boldly and stops 4 square.An outgoing puppy.

What kind of surface do you have on the ground for your kennels?

My kennels are gravel.I hate cement.It’s bad for the feet if they are in there all the time.They go down in the pasterns and get flat footed.

What advice might you give to other breeders who are starting on the breed?

Try to find a mentor.Join an all breed kennel club.Go to training classes.I take dogs once a week.

I know you have dogs from your lines on a lot of countries,and you traveled sometimes overseas.What do you think about social networks?Are they changing dogshow scene?

My first overseas trip was to Holland and Germany and I was appalled to see dogs in muzzles  being brought ringside and how unorderly things were.Lots of yelling.Greece was very nice.Spain was nice and really nice show site.

Some of the more successful Spanish Akitas came from your work.What is t your feeling about it?What did you feel when an American akitab who came from your work ,Logan(De Kaners A. Wolverine Revenge)was BIS on Paris Dogshow,with 25.000 dogs in catalogue?

I was so proud of Logan!!I was a proud grandma JA lot of work has gone into his career.

What has been your biggest thrill on the breed?

I’ve made a lot of lifetime friends doing dogs.My Rumor won AOM at our Specialty several times and was a BISS winner at a Specialty.

 What about your biggest disappointment?

I always thought Rumor should have gotten a Best In Show.

You came to Spain twice some years ago.What are your feelings about the people and dogs here?Did you meet some dog you liked specially?

I met wonderful people in Spain!I would love to come back.My favorite Akita in Spain is Simba(Ying Tao Trueno)

.He has fabulous bone and movement and a lovely head and temperament.I would bring him home!I usually do not care for the no mask look but he is an exception.And of course I’m partial to Jordan’s Fiona.I cried nearly all the way home when I left her in Spain.Her success makes me very proud.Kramer has done so well as a stud dog and show winner.My dogs and their wonderful owners in Spain make me so very proud.

My husband never shows but about 10 years ago he had to help me.He was dressed like a cowboy with the boots and hat and goes in the ring clomping around.The judge was really watching him.Finally he wins but the judge told him “I’m giving this ribbon to the dog as you have no idea what you are doing”.We all laughed but my husband was so proud of himself.LOL Thank you so much for the interview.I really saw a great improvement in the quality of the dogs in Spain from my first visit to my next.My best advice is to watch your breedings closely and only use dogs who have health clearances.That is so important to the breed.Learn the standard for the breed and how to interpret it.Don’t just buy puppies from the popular breeders.Many are in it just for the money.

HD-Sacas tus propios perros a Ring o prefieres un handler?

BB-Hasta que empecé a tener serios problemas de corazón,siempre saque mis propios perros a pista,lo prefiero.

HD-¿Que piensas sobre la política en el Mundo de los shows(Jueces,handlers...)?¿Que cambiarías?

BB-En USA la política es terrible.Perros horribles ganan sólo porque los presentan handlers profesionales.Una vergüenza para los jueces.

HD-¿Preferirías presentar con un allrounder o con un Juez Criador?

BB-Preferiría con un allrounder,porque no ganaría si mis perros no se parecen a los del juez criador.

HD-¿Te has planteado alguna vez hacerte jueza?

BB-Lo estoy considerado seriamente e incluso he realizado todos los pasos necesarios para conseguir mi licencia.

HD-Como y a que edad comienzas a entrenar a tus perros `para show?

BB-Empiezo entre las seis y las ocho semanas,enseñándoles a posar en estática y a moverse con correa con la cabeza alta.Me gustan los perros que posan solos,así que hace falta que tengan muy buena actitud.

HD-¿has vendido perros para obediencia?

BB-Si,he vendido perros para obediencia y agility,e  incluso hay uno que trabaja como perro de rescate.

HD-¿A que edad evalúas los cachorros,y que buscas?

BB-Me fijo en ellos desde que nacen,pero no tomo mi decisión final hasta que tienen ocho semanas.Busco el cachorro excepcional,que posa y se mantiene en pie con gallardía.

HD-¿Qué clase de superficie tienes en el suelo de tus perreras?

BB-Mis perreras tienen grava.Odio el cemento.Es malo para sus pies si están allí todo el tiempo.ACABAN PISANDO CON LOS METACARPOS Y SE LES ABREN LOS DEDOS DE LOS PIES

HD-¿Qué consejos darías a los criadores que están empezando en la raza?

BB-Intenta encontrar un mentor con experiencia,un guía.Hazte socio de una Canina.Haz trabajo de preparación de exposiciones cada semana.Yo aún lo hago.

HD-Se que hay perros de tus líneas vendidos en muchos países,y has viajado varias veces fuera a otros Continentes.¿Crees que Internet y las Redes sociales han cambiado la cría canina?

BB-Mi primer viaje intercontinental fue hace años a Alemania y Holanda y me quedé horrorizada de ver como los perros entraban con bozal en el ring,y como las cosas estaban de desorganizadas.Muchos gritos.Grecia fue agradable.España fue muy agradable,y el sitio era muy agradable para el show.

HD-Algunos de los perros con más éxito en España vienen de tu trabajo.¿Que sentiste cuando un hijo de Kramer(Csides Kaners Miyamoto),llamado Logan(de Kaners A. Wolverine Revenge) fue BIS en la Mundial con 25.000 perros en ring?

BB-¡Estoy muy orgullosa de Logan!Soy una abuela orgullosa.Ha habido un montón de trabajo detrás de su carrera.

HD-¡Cual ha sido tu momento más  emocionante en la raza?

BB-He hecho un montón de amigos para toda la vida a través de los akitas.My Rumor fue AOM en la Nacional hace unos años.EL fue también ganador de algunas Especiales.

HD-¿Y tu mayor decepción?

BB-Siempre pensé que Rumor debería haber ganado algún BIS

HD-Has venido dos veces a España,¿cual es tu opinión sobre la gente y los perros de aquí?¿te gustó especialmente algún perro?

¡Conocí gente maravillosa en España!Mi perro favorito de allí es Simba(Ying Tao Trueno).Tiene un hueso y moviemiento fabulosos,y una cabeza y un temperamento excepcionales.me gustaría traérmelo para casa.Normalmente no me gustan los perros sin máscara,pero Simba es una excepción.Desde luego,soy parcial con Fiona(Csides Fiona)

.LLoré todo el camino de vuelta cuando la dejé en España.Sus éxitos me hacen sentir muy orgullosa.Kramer(Csides Kaners Miyamoto) lo ha hecho muy bien como semental yes un ganador de Especiales.Mis perros y sus maravillosos dueños en España me hacen sentir muy orgullosa.

He tenido momentos maravillosos en la raza.Mi marido nunca sale a ring,pero una vez hace 10 años tuvo que ayudarme.Iba vestido como un cowboy,con sus botas altas y su sombrero,y alli salió al ring dando saltos alrededor.El juez estaba realmente fijándose en él.Finalmente,ganó,pero el juez le dijo:"Le doy la escarapela,porque tú no tienes ni idea de lo que estás haciendo"Todos nos reímos,pero mi marido estaba tod orgulloso por haberlo logrado.

Gracias por la entrevista,realmente vi una mejora en la calidad de los perros entre mis dos visitas.Mi mejor consejo es que vigiléis atentamente vuestros cruces y SOLO USEIS PERROS QUE TENGAN HECHAS PRUEBAS DE SALUD.Eso es muy importante para la raza.Aprended el standard y como interpretarlo.No compréis cachorros de muchos criadores populares.Están ahí solo por el dinero.

Los almogávares eran los soldados más bravos y temibles de su época. Eran tropas ligeras, normalmente de infantería, armados con lo justo pero que se movían con sorprendente agilidad en cualquier campo de batalla. Se agrupaban en compañías no muy numerosas, lideradas por un caudillo que las sometía a una disciplina férrea. O vencían o morían: no había término medio. Se les iba la vida en ello, y no sólo porque no daban cuartel en el combate, sino porque carecían de impedimenta: vivían de lo que saqueaban al vencido tras haberle aniquilado. Así de sencillo.

La vida que llevaban era durísima: sometidos a mil privaciones, dormían al raso y comían un día sí y tres no. Vivían por y para la guerra. 

 

No llevaban armadura, ni casco, ni siquiera l cota de malla. Su equipo se limitaba a una lanza colgada al hombro, unos dardos o azconas –que lanzaban con tanta fuerza que eran capaces de atravesar los escudos del adversario– y un afilado chuzo, su arma más mortífera. Antes de entrar en combate golpeaban con fuerza el chuzo contra las piedras, hasta que saltaban chispas; entonces, cuando el sonido era ya ensordecedor, gritaban al unísono: "Desperta, ferro!" y se lanzaban sobre el enemigo como auténticos diablos. Estremecedor.

Así de estremecedora es la carrera del nuevo hijo de Kramer,digno sucesor de Logan, que se ha convertido en el nuevo akita a batir en todos los rings que se presenta.

Al igual que Roger de Flor hizo Historia conquistando con aquellos salvajes indómitos  los enjoyados tronos de Oriente,Brook(Gruñón dos Ancestros) la está haciendo consiguiendo BIS allá donde se presenta.Esta vez,en Luxemburgo y en un catálogo de 7000 perros,se alzó con el BIS Joven de la mano de su almogaver Nacho Carballido.

Brook es el segundo hijo de Kramer que consigue BIS adultos en Exposiciones Internacionales desde clase jóvenes tras Logan...de madres distintas(lo digo para que ninguno se eche flores de que la madre también tiene que ver,una vez es casualidad,dos es certeza).Como Pedro III de Aragon,Kramer envia sus huestes tras conquistar él mismo su propio Reino(el mismo fue BIS hace dos años en Portugal)

Que orgullo ver como los españoles vamos conquistando Exposiciones...

Que orgullo ser amigo y compañero de tan esforzados almogaraves.Felicidades y Gracias a Dos Ancestros por su confianza en Kramer utilizándolo como semental en su primera camada.Y por apostar por Brook cuando contra la opinión de más de uno..y de dos(yo mismo tuve serias dudas con él).

A veces,los sueños se cumplen por que te lo mereces.
