How would you rate type,temperament and soudness in order of importance?  Type should always be first.  It has to look like the breed it was created to be.  There should never be a mistake that this dog is “an Akita”!  However, being mistaken for a bear isn’t a bad thing.  I would say temperament next.  Just like beauty is in the eye of the beholder, everyone has a different idea on what the correct temperament is or what they can live with.  My dogs are very social, but they still are akitas.  They always welcome invited strangers into our home.  Structure and soundness are very important, but balance is even more important.

Could you describe what your favourite akita would be like,its ideal conformation?Do you have some colour preferences?  I used to be known for my black on black akitas, but lately I have really enjoyed the reds.  Maybe it is because I had not had them before.  I also love brindles.  I am not a fan of whites at all, but that does not mean I cannot appreciate a great one.

What is an ideal front in the akita?  There are so many parts to the front assembly.  It is really difficult to put in writing.   From straight on you should see the legs coming straight down from the shoulders and feet pointed forward with no turning in or out.  There should be some width between the legs but not too much.  There should also be some fore chest.   From the side I would like to see some post sternum.

What is the ideal level?  I would say 26 ½ “ in males and 24 ½” in females.

What is your ideal akita temperament?  Alert, dignified, intelligent, respectful, silly at home, friendly to friendly strangers, protective when and if needed.

What were the more serious faults when did you start on the breed? Did they change? What are actual ?  I think we had a huge problem in rears and hocks in the beginning and they have improved a lot, however you still see a lot of long hocks.  I think we continue to have a lot of bad fronts and/or fronts that need a lot of improvement.  We have improved a lot in the size and set of ears.  I think we continue to have problems with top lines.  A lot of dogs look to be running down hill and some are soft behind the shoulders.

Touchstone Raja Regalia on Buckridge is actually on most of the pedigrees on the breed.Its really difficult to meet a quality dog Wordwide who is free of Raja on his ancestors.It was the same 30 years ago with Sachmo(Who is in Rajas pedigree a lot of times)What do you think about?Its in your opinion good a predominant sire rules on all the pedigrees of the breed?  That is a difficult question.  I loved Raja, even though I never bred to him.  I just never had the right bitch to take to him.  He had his faults as all dogs do, but he had so many great attributes.  I certainly believe that he has contributed greatly, but just like every thing in life…too much of one thing is not always a good thing.(More next week...)

¿Cómo ordenarías  tipo, temperamento y actitud de show en orden de importancia? El Tipo siempre debe ser  primero. Se tiene que parecerse a la raza para la que fue concebido. Nunca debe haber un error de que este perro es un "Akita"! Sin embargo, al ser confundido con un oso no es una mala cosa. Yo diría que el temperamento viene después. Al igual que la belleza está en el ojo del espectador, todo el mundo tiene una idea diferente de lo que es el temperamento correcto  o con el que se puede vivir. Mis perros son muy sociales, pero aún así son akitas. Siempre acogen bien  a los extraños invitados a nuestra casa. Estructura y solidez son muy importantes, pero el balance es aún más importante.
¿Podrías describir cuál es tu  Akita , como sería su conformación ideal? ¿Tienes alguna  preferencias de color? Yo solía ser conocida por mis negros sobre negro en akitas, pero últimamente me han gustado mucho los rojos. Tal vez sea porque yo no los había tenido antes. También me encanta atigrados. Yo no soy un fan de los blancos del todo, pero eso no quiere decir que no se puede apreciar uno muy bueno.

¿Cual es el frente ideal en un akita? Hay tantas partes en el ensamblaje del frente... Es realmente difícil de poner por escrito. Vieniendo de frente hacia tí debería ver las piernas que vienen desde los hombros y los pies apuntando hacia adelante, sin desviarlos hacia adentro o hacia fuera.debe haber distancia entres las piernas,pero no demasiada. También debe haber algúna profundidad  de pecho. Visto desde el lado me gustaría ver alguna parte del esternón.
¿Cuál es la altura ideal? Yo diría que 68 cm en los machos y 62 en las hembras.
¿Cuál es tu temperamento ideal? Alerta, digno, inteligente, respetuoso, tonto en su casa, amigable con los extraños amigos, de protección  si es necesario.¿Cuáles eran las faltas más graves cuando empezaste en la raza? ¿Cambiaron? ¿Cuáles son las actualaes? Creo que tuvimos un gran problema en partes posteriores y los corvejones en el principio y han mejorado mucho, sin embargo  sigue existiendo una gran cantidad de corvejones largos. Creo que seguimos teniendo un montón de frentes malos y / o frentes que requieren una gran cantidad de mejoras. Hemos mejorado mucho en el tamaño y el conjunto de las orejas. Creo que seguimos teniendo problemas con los toplines. Una gran cantidad de perros se parecen a correr cuesta abajo, y algunos son blandos tras  los hombros.

Touchstone Raja Regalia en Buckridge está  en la actualidad en la mayoría de los pedigrees en la razaEs realmente difícil encontrar en el mundo un perro de  calidad que está libre de Raja en sus ancestros.Fue lomismo hace 30 años con Sachmo (¿Quién está en en el pedigree de Raja muchas veces) ¿Qué te parece? ¿Es bueno en tu opinión que un semental sea la base para toda la cría de una raza? Esa es una pregunta difícil. Me encantó Raja, a pesar de que nunca he cruzado con él. Nunca tuve la perra correcta para cubrir con él.  Tenía sus defectos, como todos los perros, pero tenía grandes cualidades también. Ciertamente creo que ha contribuido en gran medida, pero al igual que todas las cosas en la vida ... demasiado de una cosa no es siempre una buena cosa.(Sigue)
